Robert "Bob" Grassfield

With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Robert J. “Bob” Grassfield, 53, on Friday, November 8, 2024. Bob was a devoted father to Joyce and James and his love, humor and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Born on April 6, 1971 in Lake Forest, IL, Bob had been a longtime resident of Libertyville, IL. He was a 1989 graduate of St. John’s Military Academy as 1st Sergeant for Bravo Company and was on the ski, hockey, soccer and golf teams. He often reminisced about his incredible experience there and remained close friends with many of his classmates. He was a former General Manager at several of the Grassfield’s family restaurants and General Contractor at Grassfield Builders for many years. Bob also owned and operated his own residential construction and renovation business for several years. He was most currently employed with Paul Davis Restoration of Lake County. Bob was a devoted NFL fan, particularly a New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears fan, and one of the highlights of his week was determining his picks for his football pool. He thoroughly enjoyed and cherished his daily chats with Steve Greene in Texas about life, health and of course, football. Bob had a great sense of humor and unwavering love, loyalty and devotion to his family and those close to him. Bob’s greatest joy in life was being a dad to his two precious children, Joyce and James. He was a constant source of love, light, laughter and guidance for them. Joyce putting Bob’s hair in headbands and ponytails, James telling him countless jokes, them dressing Bob up in silly costumes and making him dance… he loved every single moment he spent with them. May Joyce and James forever carry with them the profound love their father had for them. Surviving are his 2 children, Joyce & James Grassfield; girlfriend, Cheryl Ringler; siblings, Steve (Ann) Grassfield, Karen (Steve) Greene, Nancy (Gary) Adams, Diana Grassfield-Lentz and Beth (Kirk) Disrude; aunt, Linda Gonnerman and many loving nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard “Dick” & Joyce Grassfield and by uncles, Steve Gonnerman, Bill Jenkins and Gary & Graham Grassfield. A visitation will begin at 4:00pm followed by a service at 7:00pm on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (one block west of Milwaukee Ave) in Libertyville. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Libertyville. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the family as an education fund is being established for his children.
