Richard G. Hansen

Richard G. Hansen, 62, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018 at his home in Wheeling, leaving behind 52 rolls of toilet paper, 10 tubes of toothpaste and numerous other random items that would be helpful if Y2K actually happened. He was born June 13, 1955 in Chicago, raised in Winnetka and graduated from New Trier High School. Teachers loved little Richie, except for his Kindergarten teacher who asked his mom to send his lunches in paper bags so he would stop hitting other kids with his metal one. After attending Western Illinois University, Richard married the love of his life and spent much of the start of his career in Costa Mesa, California. After a decade, they moved to Vernon Hills, Illinois to be closer to family, where he enjoyed a long employment with Pauly Honda. Richard fought an illness for many years and endured a lot but he was a tough man who never lost his wonderful sense of humor, unwavering faith in Jesus, and silly jokes. He will be missed by all, especially his family. Surviving are his two children, Lauren & Michael Hansen; lifelong partner, Ann Hansen; siblings, Holly Hansen, Kim (Chris) Chatain, Brad (Beth) Hansen, Todd Hansen; step siblings, Jacqueline Pearl, Gwen Miller, John "Bud" Miller and Liz Swain. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard B. Hansen & Marilyn Gray Hansen, and by his stepfather Jack Miller. He enjoyed many, many things. Among those were dancing in the front row at concerts (sorry to the short people behind him – and the people who actually watched him dance), eating delicious meals with family, learning, traveling to Disney World, celebrating holidays, watching movies, teaching people about the Bible, picking double circles at Arlington Racetrack, Coca Cola, the Weather Channel and the Chicago White Sox. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Richard during his 62 years, among them: Sweat suits are always in style. Never buy a new car. Trust Jesus in all things. Also: If you run outside in your underwear to announce that an earthquake is happening, you may get some funny looks. Deep and heartfelt thanks go to the truly exceptional staff at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, who "added years to his life" (Proverbs 9:11) during many brain tumor surgeries. Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2018 at The Chapel in Libertyville, 1200 American Way, Libertyville, IL 60048. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, please share a random act of kindness, tune-up your car and check the air pressure in your tires – Richard would have wanted that.
