Joyce L. Ketterling

Joyce L. Ketterling, 83, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 2, 1940 in Peoria, IL and was formerly of Charles City, IA and Libertyville, IL, currently living in Village of Lakewood, IL. Joyce was a former employee at American Bank in Libertyville and took great pride in her years as a teacher’s aide and as a bookkeeper at Hawthorn elementary school in Vernon Hills. She was a dedicated member of the Evangelical Free Church in Libertyville, nurturing hundreds of babies throughout the years in the nursery, and teaching Sunday school. Joyce volunteered her time with Feed My Starving Children, and was active in Christian Women’s Club and Community Bible Study Fellowship. A woman of many interests, her hobbies included gardening, camping, collecting cardinals, and making gingerbread houses with her grandchildren. She had a gift for hospitality and making people feel seen and valued. The burdens of others became her burdens, and she was a faithful and trusted prayer warrior for so many. Above all, she was the essence of a Godly woman, a devoted wife of 62 years to the love of her life, Edwin Ketterling, who preceded her in death on November 12, 2020, and a cherished mother, adored grandmother & great grandmother. Her family and friends will miss her dearly. Surviving are her 3 children, Dr. Kevan (Bohdonna) Ketterling, Keith (April Leahy) Ketterling, and Kathi (William) Bliler; 8 grandchildren, Janae (Pastor Andrew) Griffiths, Dr. Hannah (Dan) Nikolich, Dr. Morgan Ketterling, emma (Cameron Craw) arbor, Anna (Evan) Cowley, Gracie Ketterling, Griffin Bliler & Dakota Bliler; 4 great grandchildren, Jonathan, Benjamin, Annalisa, & Calvin Griffiths and by 5 siblings, Margie Swords, Judy Hinthorne, Henry “Butch” Martin, Gary Martin, and Lori Flinspach. On Saturday, June 17, 2023 a visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.) in Libertyville. Interment will be private at Lakeside Cemetery in Libertyville.
