Brother David L. Wagner

Brother David Lee Wagner, O.F.M. Conv., 76, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL. He was born April 1, 1948, in Woodstock, IL and was a current Libertyville Marytown resident. Brother David entered the Conventual Franciscan Friars of St. Bonaventure Province back in the late 60's, making his solemn profession on August 11, 1973, and had many experiences while in the Franciscan Order ranging from Junior & Senior High teaching, Associate Parish Minister, Assistant Formation Director, Marytown gift shop management, Parish Choir Director and Cook, etc. Teaching included Bishop Montgomery High School, Torrance, CA, Queen of Angels, Riverside, CA, St. Hedwig, Detroit, MI and Holy Family, Peoria, IL (Spalding Academy). He was an associate in ministry at St. Stanislaus, Rockford, IL, associate formation director at Sacred Heart Friary/House of Studies, Chicago, IL and was currently ministering at Our Lady of Fatima Friary, (Marytown), Libertyville, IL. Brother David enjoyed dancing and would swirl around the rhythms of Peter, Paul, and Mary, Judy Collins, Simon and Garfunkel, Jefferson Airplane and similar vocal artists. His current hobby was taking pride in his cactus and succulent garden that he had set up on the upper floor level of the Marytown Friary. Surviving are his siblings, Ronald J. (Patricia) Wagner, Joyce Murphy, Joseph C. (Donna) Wagner and James U. Wagner; sister-in-law, Patricia Wagner and by many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Eleanor Wagner, brothers, Edward & Michael Wagner and by a brother-in-law, Matthew Murphy. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. followed by a Franciscan wake service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Marytown, Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, 1600 W. Park Ave. in Libertyville. Funeral mass will be at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at Marytown. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to St. Bonaventure Province Senior Friar Health Care Fund, 6107 N.
