Audrey L. Krueger

Audrey L Krueger's life was tragically cut short, during a brief hospitalization on July 26th 2026, in Libertyville IL. She was 96 years young. Her story began June 22, 1930 in Madison WI, to Milton and Adeline Johnson. A curious and disciplined child, Audrey was drawn to learning, language, nature and the arts and was named smartest girl in the county. She obtained her Masters Degree from University of Madison Wisconsin studying Latin, English and Art. While attending University, The stars aligned and Audrey met William Krueger III, her soon to be husband. His career with General Electric took them across the country, the couple enjoyed living in several states before settling in Libertyville, IL in 1973. A gifted educator, Audrey taught in schools throughout the country before becoming "The Traveling Art Teacher" for Libertyville elementary schools, spending much of her career at Butterfield School. She inspired countless students through her love of learning and creativity. Audrey was deeply committed to preserving local history and served as The Head Archivist for the Libertyville Historical Society for many years and was a docent at the Libertyville Cook House. She most enjoyed sharing the artifacts in the kitchen. She was a member of the AAUW, empowering women for higher education, Illinois federation of Women's Club and also served as treasurer for the Gardeners of Central Lake County. She was active in various local book clubs, and sometimes would ask her granddaughters to help her "sparknote" the book the day of her meeting. One of her many passions was quilting. She was a member of NSQS (Northshore quilting society) and a smaller quilting group composed of fellow educators. Together they enjoyed traveling the world, including memorable trips aboard the Trans-Canadian Railway as well as visits to Italy, Czechoslovakia, and the Hoover Dam. She found great fulfillment and joy in sewing, doing crosswords, traveling solo or with family. Everyone enjoyed her baking and cooking, especially her casseroles, deviled eggs and Devils Dip. She was a lifelong lover of nature, she enjoyed being out in the wild either birdwatching or gardening. She enjoyed snowbirding down on St. George Island, Florida during the winter months. She was a coffee connoisseur, usually drinking 5-8 cups of coffee and watching murder mysteries. Audrey will be remembered for her gentle temperament, her wonderful advice and her steadfast optimism. She never spoke an unkind word about anyone and she was not scared of anything. She would even sail yachts by herself on Lake Michigan. She had an inspirational spirit with impeccable patience, wit and generosity that will forever be missed. The kindness that she brought to the world will be honored in our head and hearts forever. She is survived by her son, William (Nanthavanh Chaisri) Krueger IV; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Krueger, Lindsey (Irfan) Krueger, Elizabeth Krueger, former daughter-in-law (Karen Krueger); and her two cherished great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Krueger III, son, Coel Krueger and by 5 siblings; Jack Johnson, Marjorie Graves, James Johnson, June Johnson & Karen Johnson. A celebration of life will be Friday September 18, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until time of services at 6:00 p.m. at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. in Libertyville., Yes there will be coffee!
