Arthur E. Gustafson

Arthur Gustafson's journey though life ended on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at 94 years old. He was born Jan. 6, 1918, to Marie Fyhr Gustafson and Oscar Gustafson in Chicago. He married Anne Gizelle Plaza on Oct. 12, 1941. They raised four children, James, Linda, Bruce and Jerry. Anne and Art were happily married for 35 years, and she preceded him in death in 1977. During World War II, Art served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1945. After, he worked in various automotive companies as a parts manager and eventually owned his own foreign car service. Following a move to Libertyville in 1972, he went to work for the postal service and loved his route and all the friends he made. A jack-of-all-trades, he especially loved tinkering with cars. A beer and a good conversation were always welcome. As part of a musical family, Art was a wonderful singer and could play the ukulele, mandolin, guitar and harmonica. He sang some very funny songs and loved to dance. Art married Frances Jenkins in 1980. Fran's six children, Fran, Jerry, Steve, David, Ellie and Cathy and their families became a new and lovely part of the family as Art became grandfather to all the kids in the next generation. Art and Fran had 25 wonderful years together, traveling and visiting relatives and friends. Mr. Gustafson is lovingly survived by his children, James (Mary) of Snowmass Village, CO, Linda (Lee) Nafziger of Marshfield, WI, Bruce (Anne Mariette) of Bloomington, IL and Jerry (Linda) of Basalt, CO. Also surviving are his stepchildren, Fran, Jerry (Kim), Steve (Karen), David (Maryann), Ellie (Tim) and Cathy. He has many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anne; sister, Signe; and wife, Frances. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home Ltd., 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society , would be appreciated.
