The Rainbow Bridge – a mythical bridge All must cross to reach Heaven and upon which all the animals whom you have ever loved and cared for have been waiting to run up to greet you and escort you home. Martha Jean Wolf (Wakefield), of Libertyville, peacefully passed at home at the age of 88 from cancer. Jean, as her friends knew her, crossed the Rainbow Bridge June 24, 2021, to the tumultuous welcome of the many beloved dogs, cats, birds, fish, turtles and a ferret. Beckoning and welcoming her was the Love of Her Life, husband Victor R. Wolf, and beloved son Michael R. Wolf, as well as uncountable friends and acquaintances, who have had the pleasure of passing through the welcoming doors of her Libertyville home for over sixty years. She is survived by daughters, Vicki J. Wolf and Valarie L. Pospychala, son-in-law Chuck Pospychala, grandchildren Rachel A. Wolf, Victor W. Pospychala, Sarah J. Pospychala Beake and husband, Dan Beake, and great grand- daughter Audrey J. Beake and three unofficially adopted sons, Mike Stevens, Mike Steele and Bill Marshall. As a young woman, Jean came to Chicago from her beautiful and beloved Vermont, striking out on her own in 1951. It was in Chicago that she met her Husband, Vic Wolf, who cased her back to Vermont, while she was on holiday, to ask her father’s hand in marriage. She did not know how he found her because she had not told him her Vermont address? They married in 1953 and began raising a family in Chicago and moved to Libertyville in 1961. Jean was an accomplished artist who worked in oils in her early life and carried her talents into later life, creating many exquisite Victorian-esque Christmas balls and hundreds of necklaces, earrings and bracelets that are treasured by those lucky enough to own them. Jean loved all manner of things, especially hummingbirds, daffodils, fall changing of the leaves, Christmastime, pets, the card game Kalookie, lilies-of-the-valley, Vermont maple syrup, loud laughter, scotch and her many, many friends. She will be best remembered for: being the best mom and a second mom to many, sense of humor, her twinkling blue eyes, a head of gray, movie star quality hair, accessorizing, hand holding, being one of the world’s best listeners and a nonjudgmental friend and a lover of all shiny, sparkly things and cheeseburgers! To know her was to love her. To know her was to be loved by her. Our lives were made brighter by her presence. A special thank you to Integrative Palliative & Hospice Care for the spectacular care and attention they provided in the last 6 months of her life. And to a handful of people who stepped up in extraordinary ways to ensure that Jean’s quality of life never wavered, kept her company regularly, and made sure there was always a supply of powered sugar donuts, Tootsie Rolls, KitKats, cheese popcorn and chocolate milkshakes on hand. Kim, Mike, Mike, Bill, Marti, Maryanne, Ann and Paula….Thank you. An open house Celebration of Life Party is planned for Friday, July 23, at the Wolf residence, 2248 Heathercliff Dr., Libertyville 4-8pm. Family friends are welcome to stop by and reminisce.
