Gerard "Jerry" Hosten

July 16, 1936 - February 11, 2022

Gerard R. “Jerry” Hosten, 85, passed away on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022 in Libertyville. He was born July 16, 1936 in Belgium, came to live in the United States at 18 and has been a Lake Forest resident since 1969. Jerry began his career as a hair stylist in Chicago, opening a beauty shop called Jerry’s Coiffures. For the next 10 years, he employed l0 people and prospered. He then sold his business and worked for a stylist in Lake Forest until the hair spray bothered his breathing. Next, he got an outdoors job and began installing rolling shutters and his breath came back. Later he found time to focus on his art. He produced one painting a week, became a member of the Lake County Art League and had a private showing at the Jack Benny Center for the Arts in Waukegan. He was also a member of Crosslife church in Libertyville and enjoyed raising singing canaries and other bird life. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Jeannie Hosten; 2 children, Suzanne Hosten and Dr. John (Leslie) Hosten; 3 grandchildren, Alexandra, Jack and Tatum and his sister Marlene Halsey. He was preceded in death by his son Mark Gerard Hosten in 2009. A visitation will be from l:00 pm until time of service at 4:00 pm Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.) Libertyville. Interment will be at Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Marinette, WI.
