Mark Steinhauser

Mark Steinhauser, 67, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in Libertyville, Illinois, after a two-and-a-half-year battle with ALS. He was born on January 11, 1959, in Hinsdale, Illinois, and was raised in Downers Grove before making Libertyville his permanent home in 1988. Mark earned his bachelor's degree in actuarial science from the University of Illinois, where he founded the university’s table tennis club and continued to win many tournaments throughout his life. He enjoyed a long and successful career in actuarial consulting with Hewitt Associates, now Aon, in Lincolnshire, retiring after more than 40 years. A faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Libertyville, Mark's faith in God was the foundation of his life. He was an all-conference cross-country runner and enjoyed competing in hundreds of races throughout his life, including three marathons. An enthusiastic reader, Mark also loved board and card games and was known for his competitive spirit, especially when it came to trivia. He never missed an opportunity to show off his superior intellect while watching Jeopardy! Classic Rock, especially The Who and Jethro Tull, was a cornerstone of Mark’s life, and he attended as many concerts as he could. Mark was a die-hard Illini basketball and football fan, as well as a White Sox, Blackhawks, and Bears fan. Whether leading Indian Princesses as a Nation Chief, or coaching his children's basketball, baseball, and softball teams to championships, his participation in his children’s lives cannot be overstated. Above all, Mark cherished the time he spent with his family and friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever. He wished to be remembered for the good that he did, the fun he had with others, loving God with his whole mind, whole heart, and whole soul, and loving others as he loved himself. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Pam; his children, Kevin Steinhauser, William (Allison) Steinhauser, and Valerie (Benjamin) Seiffe; his siblings, Ann Adamson, Tom (Karen) Steinhauser, Beth (Jeff) Rebenschied, Monica (Dave) Butler, and Carol (Andrew) Gambardella; his brother-in-law, Dave Gannon; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Fran Steinhauser; his sister, Peggy Steinhauser; his brother, Bob Steinhauser; and his brother-in-law, John Adamson. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Avenue (Route 176, one block west of Milwaukee Avenue), Libertyville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple Avenue. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery.
