Helen M. Casey

Helen Morse Casey, 100, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012, in Bartow, Fla., after a full life. Helen was a strong woman,known for her sharp mind, great sense of humor, and the deep love she felt for those close to her. She was born Aug. 14, 1911, in St. Joseph, Mich., and enjoyed sharing fond memories of her childhood there. Helen met her husband, Adkins Burnel Casey, while working at the Northern Trust Company in Chicago. They married and moved to Libertyville in 1944. Mr. Casey was appointed treasurer for the township school district. Following his early death in 1978, Helen continued his work as the treasurer for various schools in the Libertyville and Mundelein area. Helen was a devoted and active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Libertyville, where she sang in the choir for 35 years. She was also a member of the Town and Country Women, and served on the boards of the Libertyville-Fremont Concert Society and the Wright Elementary School on Casey Road. Full of vigor, she was known to drive antique tractors on a steep slope well into her 90s. Helen enjoyed listening to opera, playing cello, having lunch with friends, making grape jelly from homegrown grapes, reading, and hosting her grandchildren for summer vacations. She was extremely proud of her daughter, Annette Barnes, M.D. Surviving are her daughter, Annette Barnes, M.D. (Ray Barnes, M.D.) of Fort Meade, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Michelle Annette Barnes, Casey David Barnes (Candace), Diane Katharine Frisbee (Dan), Heather Rose Truelove, Ph.D. (Jimmy), Eric Raymond Barnes (Samantha), Brian Burnel Barnes (Samantha) and Michael Richmond Barnes; and three great-grandsons, Jackson Frisbee, Christian Barnes and Lucas Truelove. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adkins Burnel Casey; her sister, Mary Rector; and brothers, Philip and Stanley Morse. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at the First Presbyterian Church, 219 W. Maple, Libertyville. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church Music Department, would be appreciated.
