Genevieve Jean “Jay” Gregory, 98, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at her home in Vernon Hills, Illinois. Jay was born on November 21, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, where she grew up before moving to Morton Grove to raise her family. In 2001, she and her family made Vernon Hills her home, where she remained until her passing. Jay was a hardworking and independent woman who dedicated many summers to working at the farmers market in Chicago, selling fresh vegetables. She later became a food demonstrator at local grocery stores, a role that allowed her outgoing personality and love of people to shine. One of Jay’s greatest passions was sewing. She was especially talented at creating beautiful homemade dresses for her daughters, including gorgeous homecoming and prom dresses. She continued sewing and making clothing for family members for many years, sharing her creativity and talent with those she loved. Jay was also known for her impeccable sense of style and her collection of hats and berets, which became a signature part of her look. Jay was a member of St. Joseph Church in Libertyville and a devoted Chicago sports fan, proudly cheering on the Cubs and Bears. Above all, she loved spending time on the golf course. She could often be found several times a week at Countryside Golf Course in Mundelein, where she enjoyed the game, the outdoors, and the friendships she made along the way. Those who knew Jay will remember her for her wonderful character, quick wit, and great sense of humor. She loved telling funny jokes and had a way of bringing laughter and joy wherever she went. Her family especially cherished traveling with her, as she was always the most fun companion on vacation and created memories they will treasure forever. Jay lived a long, full, and colorful life, touching the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Surviving her husband of 79 years, Lawrence Gregory; 2 children, Victoria (Tom J.) Reznicek & Christine (Steve Gorlinski) Gregory; daughter-in-law, Marlene Gregory; 5 grandchildren, Genevieve Reznicek, Tom R. (Laura) Reznicek, Mary (Dave) Gifford, Lawrence J. (Jennifer) Gregory & Daniel Gregory and 7 great grandchildren, Reagan & Ryan Reznicek, Mackenzie, Blair & Ruby Gifford and Braden & Gavin Gregory. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Lawrence M. & Daniel E. Gregory and by 6 siblings. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. in Libertyville. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple Ave. in Libertyville. Interment will be at Ascension Catholic Cemetery.
