Emma E. Sandberg

Emma Elizabeth (Pelley) Sandberg née Male, 94 wonderful years old, died December 26, 2018, in Libertyville, Illinois surrounded by loving family and friends. Emma was a tiny lady with strength and faith larger than a mountain. She was the eldest daughter of Vincent and Elizabeth Male of Atlantic City, NJ. Emma was born in Pittsburgh, PA and raised in Atlantic City, NJ. She married Frederick Pelley October 1944 in Pennsylvania. Frederick was in the Navy and after a short stay in Atlantic City they moved to several places on the West Coast, including San Diego, San Francisco and Long Beach, California. After their time in California, they moved across country again to Norfolk, VA and finally settled in Waukegan, Illinois. Emma loved God, her church, her family and many friends. She always said that her children were her life and then her grandchildren and finally her great grandchildren. She was a longtime member of Church of the Annunciation, Gurnee (formerly Waukegan). She was a very special lady and was loved by all who she came in contact with. Emma volunteered wherever needed, at church, nursing homes, friends, etc. When she lived at The Towers in Libertyville, she would show VHS movies once a week for all the occupants. She moved from The Towers to Barton House in Zion, Il., to whom she donated her 500+ VHS movies. She loved to walk very fast and was upset when she was told she could not “run” around the outdoor walking path. From there she moved into Winchester House, where they remembered her from when she volunteered there in prior years. She is survived by her children, Fred “Rick” (Becky) Pelley, Vincent (Sue) Pelley, Linda (Glenn) Lutter, Craig (Heather) Pelley, and Robert (Janice) Pelley, her beloved grandchildren, Jeff (Caryn) Pelley, Chris Pelley, Craig (Kelly Weikel) Lutter, Ricki West, Samantha (Chris) Salus, Trent Pelley, Ashley (Brendon) Bedford, Devyn (Jocelyn) Pelley, Lauryn Pelley and her great grandchildren, Katie Pelley, Chris Pelley, Jessica Pelley, Melissa Pelley, Max Salus, Eliza Salus, Emma Sue Pelley, Sophia Pelley, Noah West and Lillian Bedford who were all the light of her life. A celebration of her life will be beginning at 2PM on February 23, 2019 at Annunciation of Our Lady Episcopal Church, 5725 Stearns School Road Gurnee, IL 60031. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Annunciation in memory of Emma Sandberg.
