Our History

1959

Mr. Paul Ray began the Ray Funeral Home in Libertyville in 1912. He had a son, Paul, also in the funeral business, but he passed away at a very young age. He also had two daughters, Mildred and Maxine.

Kenneth E. Burnett was born in 1910 and moved to Libertyville as a child. He would later marry Mildred Ray and graduate from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago in 1933.home history here.

The funeral home would eventually be named the Ray-Burnett Funeral Home and following his father-in-law's death, became Burnett Funeral Home for many years. Ken Burnett worked for and later owned the funeral home from 1935 to 1978.

Phil Dane was born in Bemidji, Minnesota, and raised near Biwabik, Minnesota. In 1965, with a very dedicated interest in funeral service, Phil came to Libertyville at 19 years old. In 1966, he graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago and served his apprenticeship under Ken Burnett.

Mr. Burnett retired at the end of 1978 with Phil Dane assuming ownership. It was then that the funeral home became Burnett-Dane Funeral Home.

  • Phil  Dane

    Phil Dane, Licensed Funeral Director - Owner

    Phil Dane was born in Bemidji, MN, and raised near Biwabik, MN. He was a graduate of Biwabik High School and attended the University of Minnesota. In 1966, he graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago. Phil assumed ownership of Burnett-Dane Funeral Home at the end of 1978.Active in the community, Phil is a member of the National, Illinois and Northeastern IllinoisFuneral Director's Associations, a member of the American Legion Post #329 and VFW Post #8741 and Past-President of the Libertyville Rotary Club.Phil is also a member and an ordained deacon at the First Presbyterian Church in Libertyville, served on the board of directors of the GLMV Chamber of Commerce, the board of the Knollwood Sportsman's Club and the board of the Lakeside Cemetery Association.He resides in Libertyville with his wife, Cynthia. His two oldest children are now funeral directors at the funeral home.

    Paul Chominski, Licensed Funeral Director

    Paul Chominski was born and raised in Chicago, where he was a 1976 graduate of St. Patrick High School. In 1980, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Marquette University and graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1981.Active in the community, Paul is a member of the National, Illinois and Northeastern Illinois Funeral Director's Associations, Past Grand Knight and longtime trustee of the Knights of Columbus #3674 Cardinal Stritch Council in Libertyville, Precinct Committeeman #172 in Libertyville and Sexton of Lakeside Cemetery.Paul is also a member of Gardeners of Central Lake County, Sons of Italy Provencia de Lago and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Libertyville.He lives in Libertyville with his wife of 25 years, Connie.

  • Preston  Dane

    Preston Dane, Licensed Funeral Director

    Preston Dane was born and raised in Libertyville, graduating from Libertyville High School in 1998. Working at the funeral home for his father and owner Phillip Dane as a young man, Preston chose to stay in funeral service after finishing high school. He graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in the year 2000.Preston is a member of the National, Illinois and Northeastern Illinois Funeral Director's Associations and the First Presbyterian Church in Libertyville.He resides in Lake County with his fiancée.
