Mr. Paul Ray began the Ray
Funeral Home in Libertyville in 1912. He had a son, Paul,
also in the funeral business, but he passed away at a very
young age. He also had two daughters, Mildred and Maxine.
Kenneth E. Burnett was born in 1910 and
moved to Libertyville as a child. He would later marry Mildred
Ray and graduate from Worsham College of Mortuary Science
in Chicago in 1933. |

The funeral home would eventually be named
the Ray-Burnett Funeral Home and following his father-in-law’s
death, became Burnett Funeral Home for many years. Ken Burnett
worked for and later owned the funeral home from 1935 to 1978. |

Phil Dane was born in Bemidji, Minnesota,
and raised near Biwabik, Minnesota. In 1965, with a very dedicated
interest in funeral service, Phil came to Libertyville at
19 years old. In 1966, he graduated from Worsham College of
Mortuary Science in Chicago and served his apprenticeship
under Ken Burnett. |

Mr. Burnett retired at the end of 1978
with Phil Dane assuming ownership. It was then that the funeral
home became Burnett-Dane Funeral Home. |
